Hair Salon Goes Green
It's snipped, blow dried, and shaped how we like it but once it's cut off - where does it end up?
"Well, in the past, actually we've thrown it in the garbage - plain and simple - we've tried to figure out what to do with it," said Kim Campbell and Mike Campbell, owners of Volume Beauty Bar.
They decided to sweep it up, then recycle it. Every month the hair collected at the salon is sent to China where it's made into mats which soak up oil spills. Some are used in San Francisco Bay. Human hair is also used to keep weeds off plants and helps to trap water.
Volume is proud to be the first salon in Alberta to recognize hair as a renewable resource. All of the hair that is cut in the salon is now being collected and shipped across the world, and turned into mats to help with numerous causes. Human hair is the most efficient material for absorbing oil, so these mats will be used to clean up major oil spills. Hair made into mats, also will be used for families living in huts, to keep away dampness and provide comfort. Your hair will also be utilized as an ultimate weed control for planting crops.
World Wide Hair Tour
Two of Volume Beauty Bar's top stylists had the opportunity to attend Davine's 2009 World Wide Hair Tour in Venice, Italy. This is an annual event held in a different location every year, which brings together some of the World's most talented artists. Our stylists got to witness the styles created by world famous artists like Tim Hartley and Frank Rizzieri. Next year we're off to Berlin!

Parlour Life magazine is a new and exciting addition to Alberta's publications, only on its third issue, Parlour has already gained recognition in Hollywood on the Ellen Show. Editorial work from volume’s stylists is featured in the ‘heartland’ spread in parlours current issue.

Rock Against Abuse is a benefit concert in support of the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter. Volume Beauty Bar is proud to be a platinum sponsor of this event, donating products as well as services for the cause.
